100 kiyakou refers to the night parade of demons and spirits that gather and march through the streets late at night, a motif from traditional Japanese folklore. In collaboration with the Korean artist collective koldsleep, the ghost project will host a banquet inspired by this theme.

In anticipation of the event, the ghost project worked with 99 creators to present you with 100 monogatari. Traditionally, Hyakumonogatari, which means “one hundred stories,” was always left incomplete at the 99th tale due to the belief that something would happen once the 100th story was told. Some say this something foretells bad luck, while others imagine more whimsical outcomes, like mochi falling from the sky.

100 kiyakou might just be the 100th story to our 100 monogatari.

On November 1, 2024, the immersive theater 100 kiyakou will take place at PARADISE AIR in Matsudo, with “ghosts.” (advance reservations required)

koldsleep is a group that produces midnight performances and art projects centered around dreams. Through performances based on minority narratives, they have created moments where participants “witness” each other. During the temporary promise of being “in performance,” the audiences create cracks in the world around them, shaping new narratives with their own bodies.

100 kiyakou is a gathering where koldsleep and the ghosts of 100 monogatari come together for a banquet.
Halloween—the one day when ghosts are truly welcomed. What kind of ghosts will come to visit this year?
And when the day passes, where will the ghosts return to?
Will the 100th story ever be told?

For one night only, we invite you to witness the chaos of the banquet and the parade.

《백귀야행》은 일본의 설화에서 출발하였으며, ‘심야를 배회하는 도깨비와 요괴들의 군집, 또는 행렬’을 뜻합니다. 
the ghost project는 한국의 아티스트 콜렉티브 koldsleep과 함께, 이를 모티프로 한 연회를 개최합니다. 

이 이벤트에 앞서, the ghost project는 99인의 작가들과 함께 《햐쿠모노가타리》를 제작하여 공개한 바 있습니다. 햐쿠모노가타리는 예로부터 100번째 이야기가 끝나면 ‘무엇인가가 일어난다’는 믿음 때문에, 그 이름과 다르게 언제나 99번째 이야기에서 끝을 맺었다 합니다. 그 ‘무엇인가’는 불길함을 의미하기도 하지만 하늘에서 떡이 떨어지는 등의 우스운 결말을 예상하는 사람들도 있지요. 

《백귀야행》은 어쩌면 《햐쿠모노가타리》의 100번째 이야기일지도 모르겠습니다.

2024년 11월 1일, 관객 참여형 연극 《백귀야행》은 특별한 고스트들과 함께 마츠도에 위치한 파라다이스 에어를 거점으로 이루어집니다.
콜드슬립은 꿈을 모티프로 심야 공연과 예술 프로젝트를 만드는 단체입니다. 소수자의 내러티브를 바탕으로 퍼포먼스가 수행되는 과정 속에서, 서로가 서로를 목격하는 장면들을 만들어 왔습니다. ‘공연 중’이라는 시간적 약속 아래 관객이 무엇인가를 수행하면서 우리가 서 있는 장소와 사회에 균열을 만들고, 스스로 몸의 네러티브를 만들도록 합니다.

《백귀야행》은 koldsleep과 유령들이 함께 하는 연회입니다.

고스트를 모두가 반갑게 맞이하는 유일한 날 할로윈. 이번에는 누가 찾아올까요?
이날이 지나면 고스트들은 어디로 돌아갈까요?
백 번째 이야기는 영영 오지 않을까요?
단 하루, 혼란한 연회와 행렬 속에서 지켜봐 주세요.

《百鬼夜行》は、日本の昔話に登場する「深夜に妖怪や鬼たちが集まり、夜道を練り歩く行列」のことを指します。
the ghost projectでは、韓国のアーティストコレクティブkoldsleepと共に、このモチーフを基にした饗宴を開催します。

このイベントに先立ち、the ghost projectは99名の作家と共に《現代百物語》を制作し、皆さまにお届けしました。百物語は古来より、100話目が語られると「何かが起こる」と信じられており、そのためにいつも99話目で物語は終わりを迎えます。その「何か」が不吉な出来事を意味することもありますが、中には空からお餅が落ちてくるような、微笑ましい結末を予想する人もいます。

《百鬼夜行》は、もしかすると《現代百物語》の100話目に当たるのかもしれません。

2024年11月1日、観客参加型の演劇《百鬼夜行》は、松戸のパラダイスエアを拠点に行われます。（予約必須）
koldsleepは夢をモチーフに、真夜中の公演やアートプロジェクトを手掛ける団体です。マイノリティのナラティブを基にしたパフォーマンスの過程で、お互いがお互いを「目撃」するシーンを生み出してきました。「公演中」という一時的な約束のもと、観客自身が身体を通じて何かを表現し、社会や場所に新たなひび割れを生み出す。そして、自らの身体のナラティブを作り上げていくことを目指します。

《百鬼夜行》は、koldsleepとゴーストたちが共に参加する饗宴です。

ゴーストたちを皆が心から歓迎する唯一の日、ハロウィン。今年はどんなゴーストが訪れるのでしょうか？
この日が過ぎたら、ゴーストたちはどこへ戻るのでしょうか？
百番目の物語は果たして語られるのでしょうか？
たった一晩限り、混沌とした饗宴と行列の中、どうか見守ってください。

A message from the ghost project

On November 1, 2024, 100 kiyakou (hosted by koldsleep, the ghost project) took place—a Halloween party attended by the unspoken “100th ghost” of the Hyakumonogatari. The original meaning of 100 kiyakou is a procession of ghosts roaming through the night. Guests received a “ghost report” posted to their home in order to participate in the party, and actors and recording devices were positioned in the banquet hall to facilitate storytelling from the perspective of ghosts. These voices were recorded using only vibrations picked up by a piezo microphone.
In a space-time where everyone experiences something different, can we truly achieve an “objective archive”? From the beginning, is “neutrality” even possible in an archive? The three narratives presented by Yongha James Hwang in conjunction with the documentation of 100 kiyakou emphasize individuality. The camera drifts precariously, capturing the banquet hall of the 100 kiyakou, as well as the process of its preparation and the surrounding locations. Its gaze circles around the event, yet belongs neither wholly inside nor outside it—like a ghost that has long lingered in the hotel. It becomes an uninvited “101st ghost,” observing every scene and finally giving voice to a once-silent presence.

2024年11月1日に開催された《百鬼夜行 100kiyakou》（主催：koldsleep, the ghost project）は、「百物語」において語られることのなかった「100番目のゴースト」たちが参加するハロウィンパーティーである。本来「百鬼夜行」とは、夜更けに行われるゴーストたちの行列。参加者は、あらかじめ自宅に郵送される「ゴースト調査書」を受け取ってパーティーに臨み、会場にはゴーストとして語りかける俳優と録音装置が設置されている。この声はピエゾマイクを用いて振動のみで記録される。
互いに異なる経験をする時空間において、「客観的なアーカイブ」は果たして可能なのか？ そもそもアーカイブにおける「中立性」は実現しうるのだろうか？ ヨンハ・ジェームズ・ファンが《百鬼夜行 100kiyakou》の記録とともに提示する三つの物語は、この問いかけに対し、個人性を際立たせるアプローチをとっている。
不安定に漂うカメラは、百鬼夜行の宴会場をはじめ、それが準備される過程や周辺の場所を捉える。その視線は百鬼夜行の周りをさまようが、内側に属しているわけでも、外側へ完全に外れているわけでもない。あたかも昔からホテルに棲みついていた幽霊のように。彼は、招かれざる「101番目のゴースト」となり、すべての光景を見つめつつ、眠っていた声をついに発し始めるのである。

2024년 11월 1일 개최된 《백귀야행 百鬼夜行 100kiyakou》(주최:koldsleep, the ghost project)은, 햐쿠모노가타리의 말해지지 않은 ‘100번째 고스트’들이 참여한 할로윈 파티이다. 백귀야행의 본래의 뜻은, 야밤에 행하는 고스트들의 행렬. 고스트 조사서를 자택 우편으로 받으면서 파티에 참가하고, 파티 회장에는 고스트로서 이야기하도록 하는 배우와 녹음 장치가 배치되어 있다. 이 목소리는 피에조 마이크를 사용해 진동만으로 기록된다.
각자 상이한 것을 경험 하는 시공간에서 ‘객관적인 아카이브’가 가능할까? 애초에 아카이브에서의 ‘중립성’이란 가능한가? 용하 제임스 황이 《백귀야행 百鬼夜行 100kiyakou》의 기록과 함께 제시하는 세 가지 이야기는 개인성을 부각한다. 불안정하게 부유하는 카메라는 백귀야행의 연회장을 비롯하여 그것이 준비되는 과정과 주변의 장소를 담는다. 카메라의 시선은 백귀야행의 주변을 맴돌지만 그 안에 속해 있지도, 벗어나 있지도 않다. 마치 오래 전부터 호텔에 머무르던 유령처럼. 그는 초대 받지 않은 ‘101번째 고스트’가 되어 모든 광경을 지켜보면서, 잠들어있던 목소리를 내기 시작한다.

I created three stories, including memories from 100 kiyakou. Within this space and time, I aimed to capture the themes interspersed here from the inside rather than through an external gaze. At Paradise Air—a place that used to be a love hotel but is now an artist residency—I lived alongside the artists who were bringing the 100 kiyakou to life; sleeping, waking, and recording as I went.
In the banquet hall, reality and fiction intermingle in the stories exchanged among the various guests. Every narrative here is ghostly. Whether something is real or not is not important. Through speaking, participants come to recognize the very existence of words. They experience a state where the words themselves become their own being.
I have woven together frogs, crows, and another story that cannot be fully conveyed. The camera moves like the conversations here—shaking, touching, occasionally coming into clarity before fading out once more.
This is a place where language is not measured by its efficiency, but is simply used, imagined, and exchanged. It is a form of language possible only from behind the scenes—dreamlike, a shadow existing just beyond some form of reality.

《百鬼夜行》の記憶を含め、三つの物語を作った。この空間と時間、ここに散在するテーマを外部の視点ではなく、内側から捉えようとした。かつてはラブホテルだったが、現在はアーティスト・レジデンシーとして運営されている「パラダイスエア」という施設で、百鬼夜行を作り上げるアーティストたちと共に過ごし、眠り、起き、記録したものである。
会場の様々な人々が交わす会話には、リアリティとフィクションが入り混じっている。ここにあるすべてのナラティブは幽霊的なものだ。それが真実であるか否かは重要ではない。参加者たちは何らかの言葉を発し、その言葉が持つ存在性に気づく。そして、その言葉の存在が自分自身の存在そのものになるという体験をする。カエルとカラス、そして完全には伝わらないもう一つの物語を混ぜ合わせた。カメラはまるでここでの対話のように動き、揺れ、触れ、ときおり明瞭になるが、また曖昧に揺らぐ。
言語の効率性よりも、ただ言葉を用い、想像し、誰かとやり取りする場所。背後にあることでのみ成立する言語、それはまるで夢のようで、ある実在の裏側に存在する影でもある。

《백귀야행》의 기억을 포함하여 세 가지 이야기를 만들었다. 이 공간과 시간, 이곳에 산재하는 테마를 외부의 시선이 아닌, 이 안에서 포착하고자 했다. 과거는 러브 호텔이었지만 현재는 아티스트 레시던시가 된 파라다이스 에어라는 시설에서 백귀야행을 만드는 아티스트들과 지내면서, 잠을 자고 일어나며 기록한 것이다.
연회장 안의 다양한 사람들이 나누는 이야기에는 리얼리티와 픽션이 뒤섞여있다. 이곳의 모든 네러티브가 유령적인 것이다. 이것이 진짜인지 아닌지는 중요하지 않다. 참가자들은 어떠한 말을 하며 말의 존재성을 깨닳는다. 그리고 말의 존재가 자신의 존재 자체가 되는 경험을 하게 된다. 
개구리와 까마귀, 그리고 완전히 전달되지 않는 또 하나의 이야기를 섞었다. 카메라는 마치 이곳의 대화들처럼 움직이며, 흔들리고, 닿고, 드물게 분명해지다 흐려진다. 
언어의 효율성 보다 그저 언어를 사용하고, 상상하고, 누군가와 주고 받는 곳. 배후에 있을 때만이 가능한 언어, 마치 꿈 같으며 어느 실재의 뒤편에 존재하는 그림자이기도 하다.
