I fell into hell the moment I was born. I had to lay endless eggs in a narrow iron cage. I couldn’t spread my wings, and my claws grew tangled in the iron mesh. Our screams pierced the sky. Whether they were mine or my neighbours’. I could never tell. One day, I was grabbed by rough hands and put into a sack. I begged for my life, pleaded not to be killed, but eventually, I was cast into the depths of the earth. Even death couldn’t free me. Oblivious to the intent of this hell’s intent, I continued to be born. On one day, I was dragged to a slaughterhouse. I begged to the end, begging for my life until the very end, but my neck was cut. That’s when I realised. This hell is maintained by human greed. Billions of me are killed every year, living just and born to be killed. Please, let me rest. Buried alive, our blood dissolved in hydrochloric acid soaks, wets the earth and the sea. They called our screams the called climate crisis. Our cry to stop the massacre pierces the sky and shakes the earth. Only humans are unaware of our resistance. I feel everything, just like you.
